Faced with strong opposition from unions, a legislator from San Bernardino County on Wednesday shelved legislation that opponents said would have stripped exotic dancers of their rights as employees.

Assemblyman Brett Granlund (R-Yucaipa) pulled his AB 1446 from the agenda of the Assembly Labor and Employment Committee, but said he plans to revive it next January.

The measure would have reclassified performers at adult entertainment clubs as independent contractors not subject to California’s employee wage and overtime protection rules.
