St. Irenaeus Church in Cypress will celebrate Pentecost on May 22 and 23 with multicultural festivities.

Participants are invited to dress in costumes from their country of origin or ancestry. Those in native dress can join the entrance procession for each liturgy.

The diversity of culture will also be expressed through readings and music in several languages. After each Mass, there will be ethnic music, dance and food in the patio area. Parishioners are asked to bring foods from their countries of heritage to share.

Pentecost is the feast that marks the end of the 50-day Christian observance of Easter. Pentecost originally celebrated both the Ascension of Jesus Christ and the descent of the Holy Spirit. Today, it remains a celebration of the gift of the Holy Spirit to the church, fulfilling Jesus’ promise to always be with his people.

The public is invited to join any of the liturgies and festivities. Masses are Saturday at 5 p.m. and Sunday at 6:30, 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. and 12:30, 5 and 6:30 p.m. Information: (714) 826-0760.
