Cromsigt Has Bumpy Ride, but He Wins

Share

Gerrit Cromsigt did a little fender-bending in winning the 40-lap NASCAR Late Model main event in front of 2,247 at Irwindale Speedway.

Cromsigt first gave race leader Richard Hooper a tap on the fourth lap. Hooper lost control momentarily but was able to stay on course. Cromsigt moved up to second as Dusty McDonald took over the lead. Then on lap 27, Cromsigt, going for the lead, dove under McDonald coming out of turn three. Cromsigt’s move forced McDonald up the track and into the lapped car of Russel White.

It was clear sailing for Cromsigt’s Chevrolet after that as he finished well ahead of the rest of the field.

It took awhile, but Rip Michaels eventually took the lead from Larry Krieger on the 17th lap and won his second consecutive NASCAR Grand Am Modified race.

Krieger finished second and has a 22-point advantage over Michaels in the chase for the series championship.

Scott Porter, who had led from the start, lost the lead to Lee Ladd on Lap 15 but regained it to win the NASCAR Mini Stock race.
