I know it doesn’t seem to fit Richard Natale’s preconceived view (by assuming that “Star Wars” “rocked their world,” how objective can he be?), but I think it would be interesting for Calendar to do a follow-up article to his “Force-Fed Inspiration” (May 2).

I’d like to see The Times interview filmmakers such as Henry Jaglom, Steven Soderbergh, Alan Rudolph, Mike Leigh and Gillian Armstrong on their reflections of how they recall the “influence” of “Star Wars” on their work. It may be illuminating to hear what these filmmakers--who still value substance over style, good dialogue over high school high jinks and dramatic pacing over flashy chase sequences--have to say.

I too have some affection for “Star Wars.” But, fortunately, there are others who have other influences as well.
