BioSource Licenses Line of Diagnostic Products

BioSource International Inc. in Camarillo has registered with the Food and Drug Administration and been licensed by the California Department of Health Services to sell its Analyte Specific Reagents as medical devices.

The license covers approximately 200 BioSource secondary antibodies, which are used as diagnostic markers in biomedical research.

BioSource will market the product line to diagnostic manufacturers and clinical reference laboratories for use in the tests they produce to identify various diseases or conditions. In order to market the products as medical devices, BioSource’s facilities are required to be in compliance with FDA manufacturing practices and regulations.

“This license opens up an important new market for our extensive line of antibodies,” said James H. Chamberlain, president and chief executive. “Only a handful of reagent developers have been licensed under the Analyte Specific Reagent classification.”

BioSource has developed more than 2,800 products used in biomedical research, primarily in the areas of immunology, AIDS and cancer. Its customers are academic, industrial and government laboratories.
