Shagadelic, Baby: The American Cinematheque will celebrate the June 11 opening of “Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me” by hosting “Mods & Rockers! Groovy Movies of the Shag-a-delic Sixties,” a 10-day festival of British and American ‘60s film fare believed to have “inspired” Mike Myers in his creation of Austin Powers. The event, June 25-July 4, includes such selections as the Beatles’ “Help!,” the Monkees’ “Head,” the cult movie “Wonderwall” (with a score by George Harrison), Stanley Donen’s “Bedazzled,” Michelangelo Antonioni’s “Blowup,” Peter Yates’ “Summer Holiday” and kitschy fare such as “Beyond the Valley of the Dolls,” “Go-Go Mania” and “Tonight Let’s All Make Love in London.” The 23 films, to be shown at the Cinematheque’s home at Hollywood’s newly restored Grauman’s Egyptian Theatre, were chosen, organizers say, because they look like they “could have starred Austin Powers”. . . . On a more direct “Powers” note, meanwhile, cable’s MTV will premiere the video for Madonna’s “Beautiful Stranger”--the lead single off the movie’s soundtrack--at 3:30 p.m. today. The video includes scenes in which Myers, as secret agent Powers, tries to catch a woman who’s been seducing top operatives. The seducer? Madonna, of course.

Jackson Leads Kosovo Relief Shows: Michael Jackson will headline two all-star charity concerts on June 27 in Munich’s Olympic Stadium to benefit children in Kosovo. The afternoon show will team Jackson with other pop stars such as Stevie Wonder, Luther Vandross and Boyz II Men, while the evening show features Jackson with classical artists including Luciano Pavarotti, Montserrat Caballe and Andre Rieu.

Jagger, Hall Attempting Reconciliation? Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall--in the midst of much-publicized divorce negotiations--reportedly have turned to counseling in a final attempt to save their marriage. London’s Daily Mail, citing a friend of Jagger’s, said that the Rolling Stone front man had persuaded Hall to attend counseling sessions and “be totally honest about his philandering past” to keep the marriage alive. “Mick knows this is his last chance,” the friend was quoted as saying. Hall, 42, filed for divorce after Christmas following reports that a Brazilian model was expecting Jagger’s child. Meanwhile, in a separate report, the Times of London has said that Jagger is planning to perform on stage for the first time with his old flame from the ‘60s--Marianne Faithful--with the two to perform a duet at a Rolling Stones concert in a London club in June.

Touring LACMA: The L.A. County Museum of Art will be one of six U.S. museums profiled on “Sister Wendy’s American Collection,” a new PBS series featuring British “art nun” Sister Wendy Beckett. The series--also featuring explorations of the Art Institute of Chicago; the Cleveland Museum of Art; the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, Texas; New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art; and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston--is scheduled to premiere on PBS in 2001, with a companion book also planned.

And at MOCA: The Museum of Contemporary Art is celebrating its 20th anniversary by having artist Cindy Sherman curate a photography portfolio of works by 10 artists showcasing the depth of the museum’s photographic holdings. Artists selected by Sherman include Cindy Bernard, Keith Boadwee, Lyle Ashton Harris, Martin Kersels and Bruce and Norman Yonemoto. The portfolio’s first showing will be on Thursday at 8 p.m. at Barneys New York’s Beverly Hills store.

The U.S. reunion tour of Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band will kick off with five New Jersey shows (July 15, 18, 20, 24 and 26) at the Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, the band announced Tuesday. No information yet on any Los Angeles dates. . . . The two-day “L.A. Gospel Festival” at UCLA’s Tennis Center has been canceled due to “budgetary constraints.” The event was to have featured headliners Shirley Caesar and Hezekiah Walker. Ticket holders may obtain refunds at their point of purchase. . . . KMEX-TV will carry a live one-hour town hall meeting featuring Mexican President Ernesto Zedillo and California Gov. Gray Davis tonight at 5. The event, “Dos Lideres, Un Futuro (Two Leaders, One Future),” will be simulcast in English and Spanish, without commercials. . . . Diane Warren was named songwriter of the year Monday by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, marking an unprecedented reign in which she has won the honor for five straight years. In addition, her song “How Do I Live,” recorded by both LeAnn Rimes and Trisha Yearwood, was named song of the year. . . . In separate but similar awards Tuesday, Shania Twain’s “You’re Still the One” was named song of the year by the performers’ rights organization BMI. The group also honored Mariah Carey, Sarah McLachlan and Rob Thomas of the group Matchbox 20 as its top songwriters for each having three of the year’s most performed songs. . . . “Star Wars” mania is alive and well in Cambridge, Mass., this week, where a group of Massachusetts Institute of Technology students turned the college’s trademark dome into an oversized replica of the movie series’ beloved droid, R2-D2. Campus officials planned to leave the prank in place until Thursday morning, perhaps because the student pranksters were thoughtful enough to leave instructions on how to remove the installation, created with fabric mesh panels of various colors.
