WESTMINSTER
A group of eight Orange County martial artists is heading to Japan this week to participate in the prestigious All-Japan Aikido Demonstration.
Dang Thong Phong, head of the Tenshinkai Aikido School in Westminster, is taking seven students to the Tokyo event, during which aikido masters from throughout the world will share their techniques and discuss ways to promote nonviolent conflict resolution.
Lynn Seiser, president of the Tenshinkai Aikido Foundation, a nonprofit group affiliated with the school, said the delegates are among the few, if not the only, Americans invited to the demonstration. Phong, who started teaching his techniques in Vietnam in 1967, has been in Westminster for 10 years and has more than 2,000 students.
