Tax Preparer Pleads Guilty in Fraud Case
A Huntington Beach tax preparer who was accused of preparing fraudulent tax returns that cost the government at least $500,000, has been sentenced to nearly five years in prison, a federal official said Wednesday.
Juan M. Hernandez, 37, who ran Taxes and Revenue Co., pleaded pleaded guilty to one count of obstructing the administration of tax laws, said Thom Mrozek, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Los Angeles.
Hernandez, who was sentenced Monday, admitted preparing returns that contained such false items as child care credits for clients without children, and mortgage deductions for people who did not own homes, Mrozek said.
