Internet Exchange Deal

AboveNet Communications Inc. agreed to buy the Palo Alto Internet Exchange from Compaq Computer Corp. for $70 million in cash and $5 million in services to help it offer faster connections for Internet service providers. The exchange, in operation since July 1996, will be renamed the Public Access Internet Exchange and will operate as a separate corporation.
