* Keys for Baltimore: Staying alert. B.J. Surhoff might have cost the Orioles a game against the Angels last week when he trotted home from third on a popup with the bases loaded and one out. It took the Orioles out of an potential big inning. Baltimore didn’t catch a break, as starter Mike Mussina pitched Sunday and will not throw in this series. He is 11-3 with a 3.24 ERA lifetime against the Angels, including a 5-3 victory last week.

VS. KANSAS CITY

* Schedule: 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday; 5 p.m. Sunday.

* Last month’s series: The two teams split a two-game series in Kansas City. The Angels rallied for three runs in the ninth, two on Orlando Palmeiro’s double, for a 4-2 victory April 23.

* Keys for Kansas City: Dos Carlos, Carlos Beltran and Carlos Febles, must keep hitting. Beltran, who is hitting .319, is among the league leaders in hits and has driven in 31 runs. Febles is hitting .329 and had a run-scoring single in the eighth inning in a 5-4 victory over Seattle Sunday. Jose Rosado, who had a 4.69 ERA last season, is third in the league with a 2.22 ERA through nine starts.
