Arraignment of a man accused of killing a computer software executive in a Camarillo workplace shooting was postponed Wednesday pending an examination to determine whether he is fit to stand trial.

Superior Court Judge Edward Brodie postponed the arraignment of Mikhail Khaimchayev, 29, at the request of his lawyer.

Deputy Public Defender Howard Asher told the judge that he doubts his client is mentally fit to stand trial. Khaimchayev will be examined by two court-appointed doctors.

The Uzbekistan immigrant is charged with the Jan. 13 shooting of Sheldon Snyder, 36, the owner of Postal Innovations. Prosecutors say Khaimchayev walked into the software firm’s Camarillo offices and shot Snyder nine times. Khaimchayev then shot himself in the stomach.

A computer programmer, he was fired a few weeks before the shooting.

At a preliminary hearing May 12, Khaimchayev was visibly shaking. Asher said his client’s frail condition was caused by nerves and poor health.

Khaimchayev is being held in Ventura County Jail. He is due to return to Superior Court for a competency hearing June 23.
