The City Council on Tuesday approved a plan to add a Metrolink commuter train station on Dale Street at Malvern Avenue. City staff will start work on plans to acquire property and secure state and federal funds to build the stop. The project, estimated to cost $5.5 million to $6.2 million, is one of the largest capital improvement projects in the city’s history, said Paul Depietro, acting deputy director of Public Works. Councilwoman Patsy Marshall abstained from the vote because she lives within 2,500 feet of the site.

The staff also will begin drafting an environmental impact report and negotiating with the county to buy the property for the 3 1/2-acre train station. The stop would include canopies for passengers to stand under, ticket machines and a 200-space parking lot with room for 100 additional spaces. Information: (714) 562-3650.
