* Record vs Crew (1998)--1-1.

* Update--The Galaxy, in fourth place in the Western Conference, takes on the Eastern Conference co-leader knowing that the Crew holds a 5-2 all-time advantage in the series. Sunday’s 1-0 victory over the New England Revolution was Galaxy goalkeeper Kevin Hartman’s league-high fifth shutout of the season. He also leads MLS in goals-against average, tied with the Dallas Burn’s Matt Jordan at 0.60. The Crew is coming off a 1-0 shootout loss in a game it might have won had referee Ali Mohamed Bujsaim of the United Arab Emirates not disallowed what appeared to be a legitimate goal by Stern John, last season’s MLS scoring champion. “Stern scored a great goal and they took it away for no reason,” said Columbus Coach Tom Fitzgerald, who bemoaned his team’s lack of finishing. “Some nights are like that, you just miss shots,” he said. “We didn’t score goals but we had plenty of opportunities. It was unfortunate that we couldn’t put any away.” All of which sounds remarkably like the Galaxy’s 1999 theme song. Los Angeles has scored six goals in 10 games.
