The city’s Bicycle Safety Patrol Unit of the Sheriff’s Department could get an unexpected boost in funding from a state grant if the City Council approves the spending at its meeting tonight.
The Supplemental Law Enforcement Services Fund gives money every year to California cities for community policing and anti-gang programs.
This year, Mission Viejo’s grant was $213,600, $13,000 more than expected. The department plans to use $10,000 for its bicycle patrol unit if the council approves the spending.
The City Council meets at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 25909 Pala.
