A towering crane will raise a 90-foot Christmas tree into place at South Coast Plaza on Wednesday as the shopping center gears up for the holidays.
The tree, which will be plugged with additional branches and hosed down with a fire-retardant substance, will eventually sport more than 15,000 hand-strung lights. The crane lift is scheduled to take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday. A separate lighting ceremony, featuring the All-American Boys Choir, will take place on the evening of Nov. 29.
