More Smoking Limits at Disneyland

Walt Disney Co. said Wednesday it will outlaw smoking next year in all but a few designated areas at Disneyland and its four Florida theme parks.

The move had been expected at Disney, which recently banned all tobacco sales at its domestic parks.

The new policy, which takes effect Jan. 30, will leave tobacco users with four places to light up: outside the main gate, at an area of Big Thunder Trail in Frontierland, at the fountain near the Haunted Mansion entrance, and on the walkway leading to the Tomorrowland railroad station.

Disney operated a tobacco shop at Disneyland until 1990 but has tightened restrictions on smokers over the years as public tolerance of the habit declined. Currently, customers may smoke while wandering the park or sitting on a bench but not indoors or in outside areas such as lines in which they are near nonsmokers.
