YORBA LINDA
The City Council voted Tuesday to add money to the budget for attorney services, but could not agree on paying the lawyers who are representing the city in legal activity involving former City Manager Arthur Simonian.
Councilmen Hank Wedaa and Mark Schwing, who have opposed spending public funds to sue Simonian, voted against adding any funds to the depleted budget that pays for legal services other than routine city business.
The council approved the addition of $30,000 for regular city attorney services and $110,000 for Redevelopment Agency legal services. The agency faces an $8-million lawsuit filed last month by the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District over redevelopment funds school officials say they are owed.
The additional money for the legal services will come out of the city’s reserves.
