The city will spend the remaining $125,000 of its anti-airport budget on newsletters and consultants and consider spending as much as $300,000 to hire additional attorneys for the fight.
At its Tuesday meeting, the City Council unanimously approved City Manager Tim Casey and City Atty. Terry Dixon’s recommendations to increase residents’ awareness about possible pollution and traffic that would come with a commercial airport at the closed El Toro Marine Corps Air Station.
At its Nov. 16 meeting, the council is scheduled to vote on whether to hire the lawyers.
