The City Council can’t ban fishing at Village Pond Park because of a 1976 agreement that gives the Lake I Homeowners Assn. authority over the park’s waters, city officials said.
Residents concerned about birds injured by fishing wire and hooks have filed three petitions over the last six weeks asking the council to prevent either fishing or the use of barbed fishing hooks at the park.
The council decided to post signs at the park telling people to call Orange County Animal Control to report wounded or sick animals. Also, city maintenance crews will increase patrols of the park.
