The City Council this week approved the use of a federal law-enforcement grant to fund a countywide drug abuse program and a south Orange County drug court.

The $37,732 grant, approved by the Department of Justice last month, can be used for a number of purposes, including the hiring of new officers and supporting crime prevention programs and drug courts. Lt. Rick Stahr, the city’s chief of police services, said the money also will be used to support programs such as domestic violence prevention, Neighborhood Watch, bicycle patrol and drunk driving enforcement.
