Cal State Long Beach Art Museum to Celebrate Its 25th Anniversary
The University Art Museum at Cal State Long Beach will celebrate its 25th anniversary Sunday afternoon by formally accepting a $3.2-million gift of contemporary artworks from the Gordon Hampton Foundation, presenting a lecture by Newsweek art critic Peter Plagens and opening an exhibition, “Historically Speaking,” which will survey the museum’s program and include examples of the Hampton gift.
In addition, the museum’s main show space will be named the Gordon F. Hampton Gallery, in honor of the late attorney and philanthropist whose 85-piece collection has been donated to the university.
Plagens will speak at 3 p.m. in the Martha Knoebel Dance Theater. A reception will follow from 4-6 p.m. at the museum. Information: (562) 985-5761.
