Businessman to Run for 3rd District Seat

Businessman Scott Schreiber of West Hills has become the first candidate to file papers for the west San Fernando Valley’s 3rd District seat on the Los Angeles City Council for the 2001 election.

Councilwoman Laura Chick will be forced out by term limits, and Schreiber said Friday he has the experience to fill the seat.

“I’ve been active in the community pretty much all of my life,” said Schreiber, who ran unsuccessfully as a Republican candidate against State Sen. Tom Hayden (D-Los Angeles) in the 23rd Senate District in 1996.

Schreiber made news that year when a group of influential Valley business people, including city Police Commissioner Bert Boeckmann, asked supporters of Mayor Richard Riordan to back Schreiber’s Senate bid in an effort to retire Hayden from office before he could challenge Riordan for mayor.

Schreiber has filed a declaration of intent to seek office with the city Ethics Commission, which allows him to begin fund-raising for the council election.
