Ground has been broken on a new 2,000-square-foot counseling center at Casa Youth Shelter, and donations of any amount will be accepted, said Luciann Maulhardt, executive director of the shelter.
Since 1978, the mission of the large renovated house on Reagan Street has been to help troubled youths and provide counseling to them and their families. Due to lack of space, some counseling sessions are conducted on the patio, front porch, dining room or reception area.
The new center, adjacent to the shelter, is expected to be completed by summer.
