A group of residents filed a lawsuit against the city Friday, challenging an environmental study done on the Imperial Highway widening project.

The suit, filed in Superior Court in Santa Ana, alleges that the city did not meet state requirements in conducting the environmental impact report.

The plaintiffs, who call themselves Yorba Lindans for Responsible Planning, have accused the city of certifying a report that did not identify and provide solutions for potential problems related to air quality, traffic and other environmental issues.

The citizens’ group is asking the court to force the city to conduct a new study. They are also seeking a court order to stop work on the $25-million street improvements until a new report is done.
