A bus filled with people coming back from a political rally collided with another vehicle and plunged off a 50-foot cliff, killing 19 people and injuring 20, police said Sunday.
The bus was taking supporters of the ruling Colorado Party home to Montevideo, the capital, after a meeting in the province of Florida with presidential candidate Jorge Batlle.
Some victims were in critical condition, police said, including a legislator identified as Yolanda Betancur.
