The Planning Commission will vote tonight on the permit and design for a $2.6-million golf clubhouse planned for the city’s north side.

The $18.3-million Black Gold Golf Club, to be built at the base of the Chino foothills, would include a 20,000-square-foot clubhouse and restaurant, according to a report by Patricia Haley, director of community development.

The upscale course will span more than 200 acres within a 900-acre residential development being built by Shell Oil Corp. The original plans for the golf course project, approved by the City Council in December 1998, called only for a temporary clubhouse.

Plans being considered tonight call for a permanent clubhouse--a two-story structure that would house administrative offices, a pro shop, locker space and a restaurant. The building’s design is similar to that of the city’s community center, according to the report.

Planning officials have recommended the Planning Commission approve the clubhouse plans, which are scheduled for a final vote by the City Council Nov. 16.
