Mortgage Rates Fall to 4-Month Low

The average interest rate on 30-year fixed-rate mortgages fell to 7.67% this week, the lowest since the week ended July 23, when it was 7.52%, and down from 7.84% last week, mortgage company Freddie Mac said. Mortgage rates have generally been on an uptrend this year--the average for a 30-year fixed hit a low of 6.74% at the end of January and peaked at 8.15% in mid-August. Fifteen-year mortgages averaged 7.30% this week, down from 7.45% last week. On one-year adjustable-rate mortgages, lenders were asking an average initial rate of 6.30% this week, down from 6.34% last week. The rates do not include points.
