Iran’s soccer team will play in the United States for the first time, facing the Americans in an exhibition game at the Rose Bowl on Jan. 16.

Iran upset the U.S. team, 2-1, in June 1998, virtually eliminating the Americans from the World Cup. The United States wound up 0-3, last in the 32-nation field.

The Americans, off since a 2-2 tie with Jamaica on Sept. 8, play an exhibition game against Morocco at Marrakech on Nov. 17.
