Greg Moye connected on 12 of 20 passes for 177 yards Thursday night, helping Magnolia snap a six-game losing streak with a 27-21 victory over Anaheim in an Orange League game at Glover Stadium.

Moye also led the Sentinels (2-8, 1-4) in rushing, carrying the ball seven times for 113 yards.

After about 16 minutes of inconsistent football from both teams, Magnolia broke the scoreless tie on its second possession of the game. Moye faked a handoff to Peter Sekona (16 carries for 89 yards) and ran 70 yards to score with 6:43 remaining in the second quarter.

Anaheim (1-9, 0-5) answered quickly after a 70-yard kickoff return from David Lopez (19 carries, 111 yards, two touchdowns). The Colonists evened the score on Ryan Paterson’s two-yard quarterback sneak about a minute later.

Trailing, 21-7, halfway through the fourth quarter, Anaheim scored on a 10-yard dash by Lopez, concluding an eight-play, 68-yard drive.

The Colonists hoped to tie the score later in the quarter, but Derek Resch picked off a Paterson pass at the Anaheim 37-yard line and ran it back for a touchdown to make it 27-14 and secure the victory for Magnolia.

Anaheim’s losing streak was extended to six games.
