Community Meeting Set on Civic Center Plans

Share

County Supervisor Gloria Molina will host a community meeting Tuesday to take final suggestions from residents about plans to create an East Los Angeles Civic Center.

The community forum is the last of several meetings Molina has hosted to discuss the center. The 6:30 p.m. meeting will be held at the Belvedere Park gym, 4914 Cesar Chavez Ave. The proposed center would replace a hodgepodge of county buildings on the southwestern edge of Belvedere Park on Fetterly Avenue.

The buildings include a Sheriff’s station, a Probation Department office, a municipal courthouse, a library, a health center and a housing project. But many of the structures were developed without a unified plan to serve the 131,000 residents in unincorporated East Los Angeles.

Molina has secured about $20 million to redesign the project into one cohesive center. The state will contribute $400,000 to help build a child-care center.
