District Auditor Picks FBI Agent as Deputy
The top auditor for the Los Angeles schools has named a 29-year veteran of the FBI as his deputy.
Special Agent Samuel N. Stanton was selected in a nationwide search that generated 61 applicants, said Don Mullinax, director of internal audit and special investigations for the Los Angeles Unified School District.
Mullinax began a search for a deputy soon after becoming the first director of the auditing unit in January when it was expanded to include special investigations.
Under Mullinax, the unit has played a key role in sweeping leadership changes at the district through its investigation that found that nine high-level employees were at fault for the failure to address environmental problems at the $200-million Belmont Learning Complex.
Stanton, who plans to start Jan. 3, will assist in managing auditors and investigators in the detection and prevention of fraud, waste and abuse in the 660-school district, Mullinax said.
His salary will be $96,377.
