Man Ambushes Ex-Wife, Then Kills Himself

A male fashion model who ambushed his ex-wife Monday morning ended up taking his own life after his former stepson thwarted the attempt, police said.

Ike Odoikyone, 39, accosted his former wife, stockbroker Fannie Owens, and her adult son from a previous marriage shortly after 4 a.m., when they were leaving their home for work, police said.

Hiding behind a camper outside Owens’ duplex in the 1900 block of West 39th Place, Odoikyone pointed a handgun at her and the son, according to police.

LAPD Det. John Elder said the stepson fought with Odoikyone while his mother ran into the home. The son was able to free himself, run inside behind her and close the burglar bars to the front door, Elder said.

Odoikyone jumped through a closed front window, breaking the glass and shutters. Owens, her son and his girlfriend ran out the back door to a neighbor’s home, where they called police.

“Apparently he clicked the gun once as they were running out the back,” Elder said. “For some reason, the gun misfired. They were lucky to get out.”

Odoikyone remained in the duplex, wrote a suicide note, then shot himself once in the head as SWAT officers surrounded the residence, Elder said.

Owens had tried unsuccessfully to secure a restraining order against her ex-husband.

Neighbors said Owens was a day trader who routinely left for work before 5 a.m. They said she had a security guard assigned to escort her to and from work for the past few weeks after she broke up with Odoikyone. The two had been divorced since 1996.

In his suicide note, Elder said, Odoikyone expressed anger at Owens and blamed her for his death.
