Gunmen Rob Jeweler at Fashion Square

Three armed robbers escaped with perhaps $100,000 or more in jewelry Monday during a heist at the Fashion Square mall, police said.

The robbery occurred around 1 p.m. at Roberts & Co. Fine Jewelers, a small business on the mall’s first level, adjacent to Bloomingdale’s, police said. The gunmen confronted a store employee, then seized several pieces of jewelry and fled in an unknown direction, according to police.

The store employee was not injured.

Police initially estimated the theft at $126,000, but said an accurate figure would not be available until the store could itemize its losses. “One piece of jewelry can add up to thousands of dollars,” said Los Angeles Police Department Det. Roberta Moore of the Van Nuys robbery unit.

There were no direct witnesses to the crime, Moore said, but police are hoping the robbers were observed on mall surveillance cameras.
