Of some 500 teams in the Southern Section, roughly half make the playoffs. Is that too many? Why or why not?

I think it’s actually better the way it is. This gives a greater range of teams a better chance to make the playoffs. This way, it’s not the same teams every year in the playoffs. If they expanded it any more, it would be too many teams and not as meaningful.

JOE MURRAY

I think half is too many. I think they should take the top two in each league and then fill in the rest of the spots by strength of schedule and league. There are a lot of third-place teams that shouldn’t make it, but there are also a lot of good teams that don’t.

If the top three teams in other sports make the playoffs, I think the top three teams in football should make the playoffs as well. It gives teams that aren’t as good a chance to participate, and to enjoy some of the attention that the other schools are used to getting. I’m sure it’s a big deal to them, and it’s good for them to participate in that.

I would like to see eight-team leagues like it used to be, and just the top two teams from each league advance to the playoffs. It’s been diluted so much. I see in today’s paper that one of the teams going to the playoffs right now is 2-7, which is ridiculous.

There should be a large number of football teams in the playoffs. In a high school atmosphere, the biggest thing that happens is football, and that also happens to be the largest money maker.

SANJAY SHAH

If there were 250 teams in the playoffs it would be better because of single-game elimination. If it was like the NBA with a five- or seven-game series and there were 250 teams, then it could get a little out of hand.
