CYPRESS
The Cypress School District voted Tuesday evening to set aside $50,000 of general fund money for intervention programs to help students who might not be promoted to the next grade.
The money will be used to fund summer school programs, Saturday school programs and after-school tutorial programs for second- through sixth-grade students.
Each school will be allowed to form its own program, but Cypress School District Supt. William Eller said he believes the classes will have two to five children receiving individual instruction.
The classes are designed to help students who score low in reading, math and written expression become proficient enough in these areas to continue to the next grade.
