Susan Sarandon: Anything but a Comforting, Inspirational Role Model
Susan Sarandon (“Apple Pie, Motherhood and Sex,” by Robin Abcarian, Oct. 24) does not “comfort and inspire” me, and she is not a role model--not with three children out of wedlock with two different lovers.
Abcarian writes that Sarandon and current lover Tim Robbins have “a fairly conventional domestic arrangement.” This couple has an unconventional arrangement, living in sin with neither a marriage license nor a formal commitment.
The title of the piece was almost on target: Sarandon is a mother, and sex does apply--but apple pie? If she is weaning her kids from “sugar, white flour and dairy products,” how could they bake or eat such a pie?
Your headline should have read “Liberal Protester, Unwed Motherhood and Do Your Own Thing.”

I’ve really enjoyed your recent series of personality profiles by Robin Abcarian and the excellent photography of the subjects. The cover photo of Susan Sarandon (by Nigel Parry) is truly beautiful.
