Leaks Halt Disneyland Ride

Share

Pirates of the Caribbean, Disneyland’s bayou- and buccaneer-themed boat ride, sprung major leaks and had to be shut down overnight, just 3 1/2 weeks after a major refurbishment was completed, park employees said Tuesday.

The leaks late Monday afternoon flooded a room beneath the water ride’s second big chute, where merchandise for the shops of New Orleans Square was stored, a source at the park said. Another leak threatened the motors for the belts that haul boats to the loading area.

Disney employees were wondering why such problems had developed so soon after a major renovation, which a top Disney engineer had said involved work on “every effect in the ride.”

A park representative was unable to provide information Tuesday evening, but a guest relations worker said Pirates was fixed and reopened Tuesday.
