Unsafe Remodel?

I just about fell off my chair when I saw this remodel (“On Top of the World” by Judith Dancoff, Nov. 21). Where were the city inspectors when she put that deck on her home? There is no railing, which makes for a very hazardous situation.

When I built a deck that was just 3 feet off the ground, I was required to install a railing. In one home, I was required to beef up the railing I had installed so that the clearance from the deck floor to the bottom rail was reduced from 6 inches to 4 inches so that an infant could not possibly get through.

I realize Dancoff is getting by on a shoestring with this house, but she could wind up with no house if she is sued for negligence.
