To help meet the state-mandated 50% waste-stream diversion goal for 2000, the City Council recently adopted a policy for buying environmentally preferable products.
The new policy requires that all city departments purchase products with maximum levels of recycled materials, do all printing on recycled paper, require city contractors and consultants to follow the policy and establish a 5% price preference for environmentally preferable products when evaluating bids.
