Judge Is Charged With Drunk Driving

Drunk driving charges were filed Thursday against an Orange County family court judge whose blood-alcohol level was allegedly more than twice the legal limit when he was arrested Sept. 3.
Gary P. Ryan, 56, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a blood-alcohol level of 0.08% or higher, Deputy Dist. Atty. Ebrahim Baytieh said.
Ryan could not be reached for comment. He is scheduled to be arraigned Nov. 1, but that date could change, Baytieh said. Orange County judges will probably recuse themselves, Baytieh said.
Ryan was arrested after ramming his Jeep Cherokee into another car in Newport Beach, authorities said.
