Health Team, Public to Discuss Field Lab
Federal officials who specialize in assessing health hazards at toxic waste sites will visit communities near Rocketdyne’s Santa Susana Field Laboratory on Tuesday and Wednesday. People with contaminant-related health concerns are invited to meet with investigators.
The Agency for Toxic Substances Disease Registry, created in 1985 to assess health risks at Superfund sites, is on a one-week fact-finding mission to determine what, if any, public health precautions need to be taken at the site.
Although the lab is not a Superfund site, U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, a Democrat, and U.S. Rep. Elton Gallegly (R-Simi Valley) asked the agency, which is part of the federal Department of Health and Human Services, to get involved.
The first session is scheduled for 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Chatsworth Hotel, 9777 Topanga Canyon Blvd. in Chatsworth. The second session is scheduled for 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Clarion Posada Royale Hotel ballroom, 1775 Madera Road, Simi Valley. The agency says the conversations will be confidential.
