A Ventura man remained under observation Sunday at Ventura County Medical Center after police shot him with rubber bullets following a bar fight in the early morning hours.

Kenneth Lee Andrews, 42, allegedly pulled a gun from his waistband during an altercation at Billy O’s Restaurant in the 2000 block of Main Street, said a spokesperson from the Ventura Police Department. One of the bar’s patrons stuck him with a bottle and took his handgun, police said.

Andrews fled to his trailer, which was parked behind the restaurant, and barricaded himself inside, where he had additional guns, police said.

After an hourlong standoff, Andrews came out and appeared to be reaching into his pocket. Officers shot him in his left side with a round from a 37-millimeter gun that shoots rubber bullets.

The department acquired the gun two months ago, said Sgt. Skip Young.

Andrews was arrested on suspicion of brandishing a handgun, police said.
