Compaq to Unveil Its Cheapest PC

Compaq Computer Corp. plans to unveil today its cheapest desktop PC, a Presario model that will sell for $499. The new Presario 5400 is part of a new line of redesigned desktops that take up less space and are designed to be more stylish. The new PCs come in midnight blue instead of the traditional beige case. The machine comes with an Advanced Micro Devices Inc. K-6 microprocessor running at 450 megahertz and a keyboard specially designed for using the Internet, Compaq said.
