Los Angeles real estate executive John Long has announced a $1-million pledge toward the creation of a new center for real estate studies at the UCLA Anderson School of Business.

The university hopes to raise $6 million toward the new program, which will focus on the financial and technological issues facing the real estate industry, said Long, managing partner of El Segundo-based Highridge Partners, a real estate investment and development company. The funds will pay for faculty and research.

“UCLA is very strong in finance and very strong in technology, and it has a very strong entrepreneurial department,” said Long, a 1969 economics graduate. “Our idea is to take all these strengths and bring them into the real [estate] center.”
