Neighbors of a Richfield Road tree-trimming operation hope their streets will look nicer, but they’re still wary of the noise and exhaust expected to come from the business.

The Planning Commission decided last week to let the business keep operating as long as landscaping is put in to block it from the neighbors’ view.

“We’re hoping that [the business owner] will pull his sleeves up and clean it up,” said Rosemary Sauer, who lives next to the tree trimmers. “We really don’t want any more problems, and we hope we don’t. But you never know.”

The Planning Commission on Wednesday stopped the permit revocation process against Tree Smith Enterprises Inc., in the 5000 block of Richfield Road. The property, which is adjacent to homes, has prompted neighbors to write letters of complaint to the city.

The business owner, Floyd Tom Smith, has been working with the code enforcement officer to improve the conditions, said Patricia Haley, the city’s community development director. There are now shrubs around the property.

Smith did not return calls for comment.
