Hospital, VEDC Team Up on Job-Training Program
Pacifica Hospital of the Valley, Sun Valley, and Valley Economic Development Center, Pacoima, are joining forces to provide work experience for Pacoima residents who cannot find work due to lack of employment history or skills. Billed as on-the-job learning, the program provides training for entry-level jobs, a uniform and one meal a day, but no wages. Medical billing, records, and other clerical job training is available. The hospital said it needs bilingual and bicultural health-care workers to serve its growing number of Latino patients and wants to encourage local residents to consider careers in health care.
VEDC is working to encourage local businesses to help educate and train the work force they need from within the communities they serve.
