Asian Group to Honor Top Entrepreneurs

The Asian Business Assn. will honor influential Asian entrepreneurs, industry leaders and business advocates at its 23rd annual awards banquet Oct. 15.

Receiving the architectural design leadership award will be Gin Wong, founder and chairman of Gin Wong & Associates, a Los Angeles planning and architectural firm recognized as one of the most prominent in the Western United States.

Stanley Tong, executive producer of CBS’ “Martial Law,” will receive the entertainment leadership award. Tong, formerly a Hong Kong stuntman, has also earned acclaim for directing Jackie Chan in several films.

Winning the fine arts leadership award will be seventh-grader Aaron Yamagata, whose artwork has graced the cover of a Hallmark card and traffic safety posters for the Automobile Club of America. The son of a well-known portrait artist, he recently was selected as UNICEF’s artist of the year for 1999.

An award for distinguished service leadership will go to Hollis Smith, who heads the Southern California Regional Purchasing Council. The entity certifies minority-owned enterprises to do business with the private sector.
