Ovando Suit

Share

Attorneys for Javier Ovando’s 2-year-old child are suing the city for $20 million, because she has been deprived of her father’s “love, comfort and support” and therefore has suffered distress and its consequences (Sept. 30). Give me a break!

No doubt that the father has a right to some major compensation due to having been permanently disabled and falsely imprisoned. But $20 million for the daughter? Why not compensate her and her mother for a more reasonable amount that equals what other mothers and children with estranged partners in the same line of work would get? What kind of paycheck did Javier Ovando live on? Why not use that information to establish any kind of compensation for the past two years?

Well, fair is fair. Let’s have the public defender’s office send a “roll-out team” to protect the rights of the police officers.
