Man Arrested in N. California Bombings
A man wanted for a series of bombings last year in Northern California--including the homes of the current and a former Fremont police chief--was arrested Tuesday at his suburban San Diego home, police said.
Rodney Blach, 53, was wanted on a warrant from Alameda County on 11 charges including attempted murder, using a destructive device to murder and using a destructive device to terrorize, officials said. The charges stem from bombings last year in Fremont, about 30 miles southeast of San Francisco.
Blach was being held without bond in the San Diego County Jail Tuesday night. Fremont police probably will escort him back to Alameda County today, San Diego police spokesman Bill Robinson said.
Blach was arrested as he walked out of his home in the upscale Rancho Penasquitos neighborhood, Robinson said. Fremont police had been watching the home and asked San Diego officers for assistance at the arrest, Robinson said.
“He surrendered without any problem,” Robinson said. “He knew he was wanted.”
Officials said Blach has been a suspect since the four bombings and two attempted bombings in Fremont.
