Suspect in 7 Robberies Arrested After Holdup
The luck of a 34-year-old Pasadena man suspected of committing seven bank robberies finally ran out on Wednesday, officials said.
Charles Borden allegedly walked into a bank on Foothill Boulevard about 11 a.m., carrying a loaded, sawed-off carbine, said Deputy Dean Currie of the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department’s La Crescenta Valley Station.
Moments later, the bandit fled with an undetermined amount of cash, Currie said, but a dye pack hidden in the currency exploded.
Borden allegedly stashed some of the stained money in the bank’s trash bin before driving away in a pickup truck. Currie said a bank customer jotted down the truck’s license plate number and notified deputies, who said they pulled Borden over without incident about three miles away.
Detectives say Borden is suspected in six other bank robberies, a home invasion robbery and a carjacking. They said his alleged crime rampage in the Glendale and La Canada-Flintridge areas dates back to the spring of 1998.
Borden was being held on $100,000 bail pending the filing of numerous charges, the deputy said.
